Best Beaches In Folkestone
Folkestone has a wide selection of beautiful south facing beaches including a sandy beach near the harbour.
Here’s a quick summary of each beach, it’s location, parking and the available facilities nearby:
Sunny Sands Folkestone | Sandy Beach Folkestone
Sunny Sands is located next to Folkestone harbour and one of the few sandy beaches within an hour of London.
The sand in this beach is so good that there’s an annual Folkestone Sandcastle Contest with some absolutely amazing entries. Next to the beach is a sculpture of the Folkestone mermaid, the pleasure beach cafe, toilets, a gift shop, fish and chips and a public house. Parking is available next to the harbour in two council run long term car parks, or another next to the Grand Burstin and the Harbour Arm.
Folkestone Beach | Lower Leas Coastal Park | Adventure Playground Folkestone
The Lower Leas Coastal Park is a great place to go for sunbathing, a picnic and even sometimes an impromptu gig at the outdoor amphitheatre!
Folkestone Beach is located at the bottom of the Zig Zag path, next to the Lower Leas Coastal park and is a favourite of the locals. It’s a pebble beach so bring jelly shoes for going in the water.
Next to the beach is the Mermaid Cafe where you can enjoy ice cream, coffee, snacks or something a little stronger if you wish. There are toilet facilities in the cafe and parking can be found at the entrance to the Coastal Park on Lower Sandgate Road or you can park in Folkestone town centre and walk down the Zig Zag path.
Just at the bottom and to the right of the Zig Zag path you’ll find the most amazing children’s adventure playground complete with pirate ship, slides, monkey bars, climbing frames and a rope slide. Entry is free and it’s open all year round. Just follow the sound of excited, happy children and you’ll find it!!
